West Mids UAF conference: Stop the rise of the far right
West Midlands UAF is holding a conference on stopping the rise of the far right, on Saturday 2 April.

Speakers for the event include Jack Dromey MP, Cllr Salma Yaqoob, UAF joint secretaries Weyman Bennett and Sabby Dhalu, John Partridge – Midlands assistant general secretary at Unitethe union, Paul Scarrat of Yorkshire and Humber UAF and speakers from the Muslim Association of Briatin and the North Staffs Campaign Against Racism and Fascism.

While the electoral rise of the BNP has been checked by antifascist campaigning, the threat posed by racist and fascist ideology is far from over.

Across Europe and the US we have seen a rising tide of racism, particularly aimed at Muslims. In Britain, this has encouraged a climate in which ideas that few years ago would have been regarded as completely racist are now seen as increasingly ‘respectable’, and has spurred on the rise of the English Defence League.

West Midlands UAF says:

“The sustained attack on the very idea of multiculturalism coming from mainstream politicians has been taken up and sharpened by the far right. That is why we need to keep organising to stop the rise of the far right.”

The conference will take up three themes:

1. DEFEATING THE BNP AT THE BALLOT BOX. Antiracists and antifascists must continue to organise against the British National Party electorally, so that the humiliation they suffered in Barking and Dagenham last year is repeated wherever they stand.

2. NO TO THE RACIST THUGS OF THE EDL. Wherever the EDL spread their message of hatred and violence, antiracists must demonstrate for a diverse society.

3. OPPOSE ISLAMOPHOBIA, DEFEND MULTICULTURALISM. We must organise to defend our diverse society from those who hate it.

The conference will be open to all who wish to stand against the rise of the far right and build a diverse multicultural society.

Details
Saturday 2 April, 10am to 1pm.
Refreshments will be provided.

Notes on some of the speakers at the West Mids UAF Conference

Sabby Dhalu – Basically a career ‘anti-fascist’ and an intellectual/political non-entity. She’s Asian (as Alan Partridge would put it) and may have got her job as an act of Leftist positive and pious discrimination.

Jack Dromey MP – MP for Birmingham’s Erdington; though that doesn’t stop him from having two other houses – one in leafy Suffolk and the other in politically-correct Herne Hill, South London.

He’s married to the super-posh Harriet ‘I was born to lead’ Harman. Harman, of course, began life as a Trot, as did Dromey, and ended up as a snobby Fabian-type New Labourite (as so many have done) who loves to tell people how to live their lives – as Fabians have always done and as Trots would like to do. Jack Dromey MP has been involved in three serious financial scandals in his time and is Labour Treasurer… ummm.

Coun. Salma Yaqoob – Leader of No Respect

John Partridge – Of the far-left union Unite. That’s it. Oh, he appears at conferences like this one too.

Paul Scarrat – Just UAF and he too appears at conferences like this.

and finally……..

The Muslim Association of Britain – The MAB is actively pro-Palestinian. In 2002, it organised a large pro-Palestinian rally in London. Some of the demonstrators dressed up as suicide bombers in support of Hamas and other Islamoterrorists (as was also the case at the 2006 demo outside the Danish embassy, which was also organised by the MAB).

The MAB played a key part in the Stop the War Coalition and helped organise the rally against the war in Iraq (2003). It also did the same in London in Feb 2006, outside the Danish Embassy, against the Danish Cartoons. That is, against the democratic right of free speech and free expression; something these Islamists themselves practice and enjoy but only in order to stop others (non-Muslims) from doing so themselves.

The MAB organised the visit of al-Qaradawi to the UK on 2004. This much-loved Islamist cleric believes in wife-beating, physical punishment for homosexuality, ‘martyrdom’ (suicide bombings) against Israeli citizens and, last not least, he’s a personal friend of Red Kenneth (once ‘rainbow’ and ‘red’, now ‘green’ – in the Islamist, not Green Party, sense). He has also described the Islamist insurgency in Iraq as ‘valiant’.

Dr Azzam al-Tamimi, MAB spokesman, has said that suicide bombings are part of the Islamist ‘struggle’. Has said that Israel will be destroyed and replaced by an Islamic state, and that Jews should ‘sail on the sea in ships back to where they came from and all drown in it’ (2003). He has also said:

‘As a Muslim, martyrdom is an integral part of Islamic theology and these young men from the Islamic perspective are not committing suicide… What they are doing is that they are turning themselves as an act of sacrifice into bombs…’

Osama Saeed, former spokesman of MAB and now prominent at Al Jazeera, has said that it’s not up to British Muslims to defeat or do anything about Islamoterrorism. Not only that. He once said that attacking the idea of the universal Islamic caliphate was ‘the equivalent of criticising the Pope’.

Mohammed Kassem Sawalha is a former president of the MAB. According to US court documents, in the early 1990s Sawalha was a leading militant ‘in charge of Hamas terrorist operations within the West Bank’.

Get the connections? Muslim Brotherhood – MAB – Hamas.

The MAB is the Muslim Brotherhood’s British branch.

The Muslim Brotherhood started its Islamoterrorist campaign of bombings and assassinations in the late 1920s, twenty years before the formation of Israel, forty or so years before Israel ‘occupied’ the West Bank and Gaza, and around seventy-five years before the US/UK ‘invasions’ of Afghanistan and Iraq.

UAF Epic fail in Dagenham

From the UAF website 08.03.2011 : ‘ Local people and antifascist campaigners are determined to show the racists and fascists are not welcome in Dagenham on 12 March.’

Well it seems obvious, the good folk of Dagenham don’t welcome reprobates of any persuation judging by their overwhelming rejection of the UAF today.

Today was important. It should be shoved down the UAF’s skanky throats whenever they harp on about ‘outsiders’ and ‘locals’ every time the EDL demonstrate. The UAF turnout consisted of less than 10 (TEN) UNION OFFICIALS. No LOCALS supported them. None. ZERO.

I won’t pretend to know the demographics of Dagenham but it would appear the UAF/Unions don’t have a large constituency of ‘local’ muslim youth to call upon and agitate and let’s face it, that’s all they have now.

The students have fucked them off : Remember Manc, Leeds and Bolton had massive student turnouts. Where are they now ? I’ll tell you. They are facing up to the fact they’re going to graduate in massive debt and in competition for jobs going to those willing to work for buttons who can’t speak English. Thanks a bunch NO BORDERS.

Who else is missing ? You’re average decent citizen, that’s who. After all, what normal person isn’t against ‘Fascism’ ? indeed, who wouldn’t embrace ‘Hope’ over ‘Hate’ ? Empty and emotive slogans clearly aren’t working anymore so that’s Joe Public turning his back. He’s proud of his ancestors who actually fought Fascism and whose ‘hope’ now lies in the Lottery. Thanks again, NO BORDERS

Then there’s the middle-class public sector sort who had a job for life….then didn’t. Gold plated pension and a platinum coated conscience both gone. They’re mortgaged up to their necks-ends, and turning their anger on the coalition. ‘Fuck the oppressed of Palestine. I want my life back,’ they’re saying. Or rather, thinking.

Smash the EDL ? They couldn’t give a fuck anymore and the UAF know it. These people may have been stupid during the ‘good times’ but now the shit’s hitting the fan, they’ve deserted, never to return

Anti Immigration Sentiment Soars in Britain

In last year’s general election in Britain, both the Conservatives and Labour addressed the issue of immigration and the popular feeling that uncontrolled immigration had caused problems for Britain. However, due to Britain’s electoral system, no party with an explicit anti-immigration agenda such as the British National Party or the United Kingdom Independence Party managed to make it into Parliament.

This contrasts with results in Holland and Sweden where the Freedom Party and the Swedish Democrats made major breakthroughs. In France, the National Front polls at 20%.

Now, a poll conducted in Britain for the left-wing Searchlight Educational Trust finds that 48% of voters would consider voting for a party that would tackle immigration and Islamic extremism provided it steered clear of violence and “fascist imagery”. 52% said that Muslims cause problems in the United Kingdom.

The poll found that two thirds of white Britons felt that immigration had made a negative contribution. They were joined by 43% of Asian Britons and 17% of black Britons. According to the poll, a strong correlation existed between economic insecurity and hostility to immigration. The results were slightly skewed by older pro-conservative voters whom the pollsters called cultural integrationists. Another interesting result is that more nonwhites than whites favor freezing immigration on till the economic situation improves.

While the full report will only be published on the web Monday night, it has already been embraced by the British left to attack the government of David Cameron and former Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair, whom the left considers a traitor.

David Cameron is attacked for his recent speech denouncing multiculturalism and calling for a muscular liberalism that would spell out more clearly what values are acceptable and what are inacceptable. Critics from the left condemn the Cameron speech for legitimizing the sentiments expressed in the poll. The Left and its journalistic mouthpieces, such as the Guardian and the Daily Mirror, also claim that the government’s current austerity policy is causing layoffs and lowering the standard of living. This is increasing economic insecurity and therefore fueling the dangerous attitudes surfacing in the poll.

Tony Blair is attacked for his “New Labour” approach that essentially jettisons politics based on class and therefore made working class Britons feel that they had been abandoned. If politics are not based on class, then the substitute is the identity-based politics expressed by the respondents to the poll.

While the survey was conducted by the well-regarded Populus polling organization, some critics are uneasy about questions that are too vague to permit conclusions. Another obvious criticism is that the poll is self-serving. Searchlight advertises itself as an organization that combats fascism by educational work. Obviously the more alarming the attitude towards immigrants is, the greater the need to fund the organization.

Immigration And Asylum Seekers In Calais - wanting to be in the UK

Shock poll shows rising tide of right-wing nationalism

Almost half the country would back a new right-wing party that vowed to crack down on immigration and Islamic extremists, a shock poll reveals today.

They would also restrict the building of mosques and order the flag of St George or the Union Jack be flown on all public buildings.

The revelations will spark fresh fears of racial tension in Britain amid a new wave of support for right-wing parties like the British National Party and the English Defence League.

Findings of the survey, the largest of its kind and involving 5,054 people, are in a major report called Fear and Hope – the New Politics of Identity, which examines views on race, immigration and multi-culturalism. Former Foreign Secretary David Miliband and campaigning left-wing MP Jon Cruddas will officially unveil the report, produced for the Searchlight Education Trust, tomorrow.

In one of the most revealing questions, pollsters Populus asked people if they would back a party that “wants to defend the English, create an English parliament, control immigration and challenge Islamic extremism”.

A total of 48 per cent said they would either “definitely support” or “consider supporting” a party with such an agenda, if it shunned violence and fascist imagery.

The results will alarm both PM David Cameron and Labour leader Ed Miliband, who are worried about the rise of right-wing extremists.

In the 12 months to last September, 238,950 migrants were allowed into Britain, the highest figure since records began. Sixty per cent of people thought immigration had been “a bad thing” for England, against 40 per cent who said it had been “good”.

Thirty-four per cent said immigration should be stopped permanently or until the economy improved. The report also found opposition comes from all races, not just “white Britons”. And 52 per cent of Britons agree that “Muslims create problems in the UK”.

Searchlight director Nick Lowles said: “The harsh truth is we are in danger of losing touch with the public on race, immigration and multi-culturalism.”

Record rise in immigration as 240,000 given right to stay in just one year

A warm welcome: Non-EU migration to the UK is almost at record levels

Labour’s ‘shambolic’ stewardship of the immigration system was exposed last night by figures showing that almost a quarter of a million migrants were handed the right to stay in Britain last year.

Grants of settlement, which are one step short of a passport, rose 35 per cent to 238,950 in the year to September 2010 – the highest since records began in 1960.

The total includes tens of thousands given full access to Britain’s public services because of the catastrophic failure to deal with their asylum cases swiftly.

Official figures also showed migration added 226,000 to the country’s population in 2010. This net migration figure – the number of arrivals minus those departing – is more than double the level that would be needed if ministers are to fulfil their pledge to reduce the annual net total to ‘tens of thousands’ by 2015.

Among the arrivals were spiralling numbers of students. Study visas issued in Labour’s last year were up by 41 per cent. The Office for National Statistics stated: ‘Long-term immigration to the UK for formal study has trebled over the last decade.’

The backlog of more than 400,000 asylum cases was uncovered more than five years ago and only now are many finally being resolved. Sir Andrew Green, chairman of the MigrationWatch think-tank, said the settlement figures were ‘appalling’.

‘This is what Labour called “managed migration”. It would be hard to imagine a more shambolic inheritance,’ he said.

‘Around one in three of those granted settlement were failed asylum seekers who had been hanging around so long that they acquired a human rights case to stay.’

The ONS confirmed that the foreign-born population rose by 3.2million during Labour’s 13 years in power, as reported in the Mail this week.

Sir Andrew said: ‘These figures are Labour’s legacy to Britain – 3.2million immigrants, including a quarter of a million in their last year alone.

‘Over half a million students in one year with no interviews before arrival and no checks on departure, and a “points-based system” that has increased immigration, not reduced it.’

Immigration Minister Damian Green said that the figures reinforced the need for radical reforms of the immigration system.

Labour ‘let in 3 million immigrants’

More than three million migrants came to Britain under the previous Labour government, campaigners have claimed.

Migration Watch UK said official figures to be released on Thursday will show for the first time that net migration since Labour came to power in 1997 topped the three million mark.

Sir Andrew Green, the think-tank’s chairman, said: “The sheer scale of what has occurred is changing Britain fundamentally and irrevocably and in ways the majority of the population did not ask for, were not consulted about and did not wish to see.”

Describing immigration policy as “Labour’s great betrayal”, Sir Andrew said the introduction of 3.2 million people – three times the population of Birmingham – was increasing the pressure on “roads, railways, housing, infrastructure, the environment, schools, hospitals and the general quality of life”.

He added: “The present Government will have to stick to their guns if they are to clear up the shambles they inherited and get a grip of developments that could otherwise fundamentally change the whole nature of our society.”

Immigration Minister Damian Green said: “Unlimited migration has placed unacceptable pressure on our public services over the years.

“That is why we are currently carrying out major reform of the system to reduce net migration to the tens of thousands.

“We have already introduced an annual limit to the number of economic visas from outside the UK alongside new proposals to reform other routes of entry including student, marriage and settlement visas which have in the past been subject to widespread abuse.”
